Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Monday appealed United Nations secretary general Ban-Ki-moon to “explore possibilities of investigating the grave human rights violations in Kashmir at the hands of Indian army.”
“With the proposed United Nations intervention in Sri Lanka over the human rights and humanitarian violations of Tamil people living in Sri Lanka, the world body should also explore possibilities of investigating the grave human rights violations in Kashmir at the hands of Indian army and accomplish their responsibility of protecting the lives, property and honour of the citizens of this disputed region,” Geelani said in a statement from New Delhi.
He said that UN has paid a little attention towards this south Asian region due to which “the loss of precious human lives is going on a very large scale and the worst kind of human rights violations are perpetrated here.”
According to the statement said, UN has proposed a meeting in Geneva over the USA-sponsored resolution in which the proposed UN intervention for an independent investigation of human rights and humanitarian violations in Sri Lanka under the auspices of the UN high Commissioner for Human Rights would be discussed.
While seeking the attention of world body towards the Kashmir on the occasion, Geelani said that “Kashmir is the most volatile issue in the south Asia and due to this dispute, the record breaking human rights violations are happening here.”
The pro-freedom leader also blamed the world community for following dual standards over Kashmir saying “They are not paying any serious attention towards this long pending dispute.”
