Batamaloo residents protest govt inaction to tackle water logging

Srinagar: Hundreds of residents from Batamaloo area here blocked the Tengpora-Batamaloo main road on Monday morning to protest against the government’s failure to tackle water logging in the locality due to flawed drainage system.
Eyewitnesses said that the demonstration led to heavy traffic jam in the area for about two hours as people blocked the road to protest the government inaction.
The protestors said that the normal life in the area has been affected due to the water lodging as a result of flawed drainage system.
The protestors said that they approached the government officials several times urging them to rectify the drainage system but to no avail.
“The authorities turned blind-eye towards our plight after which we were compelled to take to the streets,” they said.
Later people called off their protests only after the additional deputy commissioner, Srinagar, visited the spot and assured them that the drainage system in the area will be rectified at the earliest.
