CUK VC for adopting innovative practices in examination system

Srinagar: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din Saturday inaugurated one-day workshop on “Examination-Evaluation Reforms: Challenges and Responses” at its Transit Campus Sonwar here.
The workshop was attended by academic heads, faculty members, functionaries of the Central University.
Addressing the participants in his inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj-ud-Din Mir appreciated the initiative of Examination Department and advised the university functionaries to look for possibilities of national and international level seminars and conferences to take stock of the examination and evaluation process and find out the avenues of improvement and revision within the framework. He also underscored the need for succession planning and grooming the second line of academic leadership within the university.
CUK Registrar, Prof Muhammad Afzal Zargar said the University has constituted an Examination Reforms Committee to streamline the examination and evaluation process, to come up with broader common mechanism for examination reforms and to inculcate a unique set of practices for the university in this regard. He said the examination-evaluation system was an important part of any University set up, adding that innovations were needed to make progress with respect to the examination reforms. Prof Zargar asked the examination department to get regular feedback from the students regarding all matters in examination. Prof Zargar stressed for formulation of recommendations with regard to reform that could be put to test and finally institutionalized.
Controller of Examination, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar focused on curriculum management audit with special reference to evaluation process audit and discussed in detail a variety of parameters covered under this audit.
On this occasion “Operations Manual” compiled by the Examination wing of the university was released by the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Controller Examinations.
In technical session one, a detailed presentation was made by Prof. Abdul Gani on Continuous Internal Assessment highlighting  its importance towards best practices being adopted in the University. The session was chaired by Prof. G M Bhat and facilitated by Dr. Farooq A Shah.
The second technical session was chaired by Prof S Fayyaz Ahmad and Prof N A Nadeem deliberated upon the theme End Semester Examination with a special focus on the significance of the teaching-learning-evaluation in the context of NAAC assessment and accreditation. Dr. Fayaz A Nikka facilitated the session. The sessions were live by way of interaction in which the participants expressed their observations and raised queries which were responded by the resource persons.
Head Department of Law, Dr. Sheikh Showkat presented the vote of thanks while as Imtiyaz A Parray regulated the programme proceedings. The workshop was highly applauded by the participants and they requested the authorities to conduct more workshops like that.
