Post- snowfall, landslides threaten life in Baramulla

Baramulla: The recent snow and incessant rains have resulted in land-sliding in several areas in this north Kashmir district with Tilawari village in Uri, close to the Line of Control, reporting massive sliding which is now threatening the local habitation there.
Javiad Ahamd, one of the residents of Tilawari said that no help has reached to the village which is 12-km from the main Uri town, as the approach road to the village has also been blocked due to landslides.
Sub district Magistrate (SDM) Uri Dr Abdul Aziz while confirming the reports of land sliding in Tilawari village said that a Naib Tehsildar was continuously monitoring the situation, and that the situation was under control.
“If need arises, we will take steps to save the lives and other property of villagers,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Drangbal area that too witnessed land sliding, the district administration shifted dozens of families to safer places.
Meanwhile with rains lashing several parts of the district on Friday, people in several areas including Dankhan Baramulla, Mohra, Nowshera, Khanpora and other places expect more landslides amid reports of shooting stones blocking the Srinagar-Uri highway.
