Will soon demolish Sameer Kaul’s illegal structure: LAWDA

SRINAGAR: Caretakers and security guards at People’s Democratic Party’s national spokesperson Dr Sameer Kaul’s illegal residential house close to Dal Lake here Thursday refused to cooperate in the demolition process initiated by the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA).
A team of LAWDA officials had to wait outside the main gate of the house, which is being built in an area declared non-permissible for construction, as the guards denied them entry into the property. The team eventually returned without carrying out inspection or demolition of the property.
“We sent a team to inspect and demolish the illegal structure, but the guards there didn’t allow us in. For about one and a half hour, the team was made to wait outside the gate by the guards,” LAWDA’s Enforcement Officer Sikander Khan told Kashmir Reader.
He said the team had to return without carrying out any demolition, “but we will make an intensified effort to demolish the illegal structure.”
Dr Kaul, a prominent oncologist presently based in New Delhi, is constructing a residential house near Sharab Kul, the area declared non-permissible for any kind of construction by LAWDA. Earlier also, the house faced demolition attempts from LAWDA, but the construction has been restarted recently.
LAWDA’s vice-chairman Irfan Yasin told Kashmir Reader that the illegal structure would be soon demolished.
“We will make sure that our officials enter into the property. They will carry out and inspection of it, and subsequently demolish the structure built in violation of the norms,” Yasin said.
