SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association Thursday appointed former first class cricketer Parvez Qaiser as head coach of senior T-20 side that will participate in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The decision comes after the team had horrible outings in 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy 2014 that saw them lose all five games in North Zone leg of the tournament. The development means former pacer Abdul Qayoom who was coach of the team in Vijay Trophy and successful Ranji Trophy campaign has been relinquished of his post.
Known for being a vocal JKCA critic, Qaiser used to be a top notch wicketkeeper in his hey days and would contribute useful runs down the order.
J&K’s record in T20 cricket has been a shoddy one, failing to win a single game last season and one will have to see if Qaiser’s appointment changes fortunes of the J&K side in the slam bang format.
Cricket fraternity has hailed the decision and hoped the appointment would fetch J&K positive results.
