Cricket row: Mirwaiz assures help to expelled students

SRINAGAR: A delegation of students who were expelled from Swami Viveknanad Subharti University (SVSU) in Meerut for cheering Pakistan against India in cricket match, called on Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who assured them that the pro-freedom amalgam would utilize its all resources to save their career.
In a statement, a Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman said that Mirwaiz while meeting the delegation “expressed his serious concern over the mistreatment meted out to these students.”
Mirwaiz, who continues to be under house arrest since the killing of a teenager in Naid Khai last Friday in forces’ firing, said that “Kashmiri students studying in Meerut were living under constant fear and harassment.”
“It is the duty of government that instead of politicizing their forcible expulsion from the University, it should make all arrangements to help them to pursue their education,” the Hurriyat (M) chief said, adding “Kashmiri youth are the future of nation and any carelessness towards their educational career would have a negative impact on Kashmiri society.”
According to the statement, Mirwaiz assured students that “Hurriyat would utilize all resources to address the problems and issues faced by them.”
Mirwaiz also stressed upon the state authorities “not to play with the future of Kashmiri students.”
