Woman dies of alleged medical negligence in Pattan

Baramulla: The Health Department Saturday ordered time bound enquiry into the death of a woman allegedly due to negligence of medicos at a hospital in Pattan area of this north Kashmir district.
35-year-old Haseena of Hanjiveera, Pattan was brought to the sub-district hospital (SDH) Pattan by her husband Mohammad Seleem Mir after she complained of chest pain on Saturday morning. At the hospital, the doctors examined her and prescribed an injection to reduce her pain. She was taken to a room where a Health volunteer administered her injection.
“Instead of relieving her of pain, the injection caused reaction. She withered in pain as her husband made a failed attempt to shift her to Srinagar for treatment. She succumbed on way to the SKIMS, Srinagar,” local residents told Kashmir Reader.
Later, husband of the dead woman staged protest against the hospital authorities accusing them of negligence. He alleged that his wife was administered injection before a test dose.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Baramulla Dr Ashiq Hussain denied that the woman died of the injection administered at the hospital.
“However, on the basis of family’s allegations, I have ordered time bound enquiry into the death of the woman. The enquiry findings will reach my office on Monday. Whosoever is found guilty of negligence will be dealt sternly,” he added.
