Srinagar: At least a dozen people, including three CRPF troopers and two women, were Saturday bitten by stray dogs in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
Reports said a pack of stray dogs attacked and injured the people in Rahmoo village of Pulwama. The condition of two of the injured who were badly mauled by the canines, is said to be critical.
The injured civilians have been identified as Hilal Ahmad, Khursheed Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad, Ghulam Qadir, Haji Kamal, Afra Rashid, Altaf Wani, Abdul Aziz Dar, and Sara Bano. The injured troopers have been identified as Raj Kumar, Dinesh Kumar and Ashok Baji.
“Stray dogs have let loose a reign of terror in the area. Elderly and children are the most vulnerable to attacks by canines,” village Sarpanch Ali Mohammad Dar was quoted as saying by local news agency GNS.
Accusing the local municipal council of negligence, Dar said that canines are transported from Srinagar and dropped in Pulwama. He asked the municipal council to take immediate steps to control the dog menace in the area
