LS polls: IT Dept sets up cell to monitor cash flow

Jammu: The Income Tax Department has set up a special cell to keep a tab on flow of cash and other valuables in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections.
The IT Department has set up a special cell consisting of independent control room and complaint monitoring cell here today on the directions of the Election Commission of India, Jammu IT Commissioner A K Thatai told reporters.
Besides this, a Toll Free number – 18001807040 – has also been launched for receiving complaints or information regarding movement of large sums of cash or other items suspected to be used for bribing the voters during the 2014 elections, he said.
The toll free number shall function 24×7, he said and added that three inspectors are deputed to receive and attend any complaints round the clock.
Thatai said surveillance teams would be put in places like airports at Jammu, Srinagar and Leh and besides Jammu Tawi Railway Station.
He further said Air Intelligence Units have also been set up at all the airports in the state from the date of announcement of elections.
The IT Department chief said any transaction exceeding Rs 10 lakh and bullion exceeding one-kg shall be intimated to the Department.
