BGSBU holds seminar on impact of FDI on Indian economy

RAJOURI: To acquaint its students with the various aspects of FDI in India and its impact on the growth of economy, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University on Thursday organised a seminar on “Foreign Direct Investment in Indian Economy” in the campus here.
According to a statement issued by a university spokesperson, the seminar was organised by the university’s School of Management Studies under the guidance and directions of IA Hamal, Vice Chancellor, BGSBU. The spokesperson said, Hamal is always keen to organise such educational and management activities like seminars, workshops, case studies etc. for the growth of future business managers.
While speaking on the occasion Prof SK Gupta, Head, School of Management Studies appreciated the efforts of the students to discuss, analyse and frame their view points on current and challenging issues of the business world. He explained in detail the background for permitting FDI in 12 areas of operations like telecommunication, insurance, retail trade, tourism etc. He mentioned the various advantages of FDI in the light of rupee’s value substantially. However, he also highlighted the various disadvantages, where there is a need to keep proper checks and precautions in the light of the growth variables of the economy.
Earlier Dr Javed Iqbal, the coordinator of the seminar presented the welcome address and introduced the concept of FDI in India, its opportunities and threats.
In the seminar various papers were presented by scholars and students of Management Studies, who include Ahsan Ul Haq, Mohammad Shafaq, Aamir Shabir Mir, Anisha Bashir, Nayeem A, Chandani Sharma, Firdous Ahmed Qazi and Mohitsim. These scholars delivered presentations on impact of FDI on various sectors of Indian economy like retail, insurance, telecom, tourism sector etc. All the faculty members, research scholars and students were present in the seminar.
