IUST students protest fee hike

Srinagar: Demanding revision of the fee structure, the students of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) on Monday staged protests here alleging ‘loot by the authorities’.
A group of IUST students appeared at Press Colony and staged demonstrations against the varsity administration. They alleged that the varsity was forcing them to pay a fee of Rs 19,000 per semester.
“Fee structure for all government Polytechnic colleges is only Rs 2300 per annum. You can yourself imagine how IUST is looting us. Even the Vice-Chancellor, who had assured to refund our fee once the university receives the funds has backtracked,” Riyaz Ahmad, a student, said.
The protesting students also complained of lack of infrastructure and other basic facilities at the university.
