BOPEE revokes MBBS admission of 9 more beneficiaries

Srinagar: The Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) has cancelled the selection and admission of nine more candidates identified by the Crime Branch of police as the beneficiaries of the multi-million cash-for-paper scam in Common Entrance Test-2012.
With this, the number of those shown the door for resorting to fraudulent means in selection to MBBS course in 2012 has gone up to 21.
In his status report, Under Secretary BOPEE, Zahoor Ahmad Butt, informed the High Court on Monday that the selection and admissions of nine beneficiaries including three minors has been revoked.
The nine students are: Aina Hilal Shokli, Aroj Mushtaq, Obaid Yousuf Lone (minor), Yameena Jan, Wajid Majeed, Ruhail Ahmad Mir, Imtiyaz-ul-Hussain, Danish Majeed and Meem Hai Mehran (minor).
The Board has conveyed its decision to Principals of Government Medical College Srinagar/Jammu, where the students were studying, requesting them to be struck off the rolls.
“The information may also be conveyed to the university of Kashmir/Jammu for cancellation of their admission.”
The BOPEE action follows evidence provided by the Crime Branch and the reply to the show-cause notices by the candidates.
“The BOPEE in its brochure has made it clear to the candidates that no malpractice in the examination can be tolerated and that who resorts to any unfair or fraudulent means will suffer criminal prosecution besides even debarring them permanently from appearing in the examination,” the report said.
Rejecting the contention by the beneficiaries that “no action can be taken till the guilt is proved in the court,” the BOPEE said it is based on principle of law which is relevant only in criminal trials.
“Here it is the case of fraud which is shown (by Crime Branch) to have been committed by the indicted candidates in obtaining their selection and admission for undertaking the course at the cost of meritorious candidates,” the court said.
The CET conducting body said that nobody can be allowed to take advantage of the fraud.
“The selection and admission of the indicted candidates on the basis of material supplied by Crime Branch, and after consideration of the replies filed by the candidates is found to be result malpractice amounting to fraud which has originated from none other than the chairman BOPEE heading it at the relevant time,” the court added.
