An extreme step: Soz

Jammu: Batting strongly for dialogue to resolve the issue, Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Saifuddin Soz Thursday  said slapping of sedition charges against Kashmiri students in Meerut by Uttar Pradesh government for cheering Pakistan team during a cricket match that India lost was an extreme step and cannot be supported.
“As far as sedition charges are concerned, University authorities have not worked well on this issue. Dialogue is best way to resolve the issue. I also want to sit with those children (to understand their psychology). Sedition charge is an extreme step and that is not the right thing to do,” Soz told reporters here.
“India has 20 crores Muslims. All are Indians. Muslims openly say that terrorism is wrong way. Those involved in activities of SIMI or Indian Mujahideen, will only be hated by Muslim community,” he said.
“Even Deoband issued fatwa (in regard with terrorism). In this, Arshad Madani head of Jaimait-ul-Ulma had said that Islam has no relation with terrorism,” he said, adding “India is peaceful and secular country. All communities live peacefully.”
