SRINAGAR: Condemnations continued to pour in on Wednesday against the expulsion of Kashmiri students from Swami Vivekananda Subharti University (SVSU) in Meerat.
Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir while “strongly condemning the harassment to Kashmiri students in Indian states” said that such incidents have become a routine.
“It has become a routine to harass Kashmiri Muslim students studying in various educational institutions of India at the behest of communal forces,” a statement issued by Jama’at spokesman advocate Zahid Ali said.
“But it is unfortunate that, on all such occasions, the authorities there support the communal forces against Kashmiri students,” he said.
The statement said that Jama’at described the expulsion of Kashmiri students from SVSU as “a clear proof of communalism and demanded stern action against its officials.”
The statement also lambasted state government for its failure to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
In a statement, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA) also condemned “the suspension of 67 Kashmiri students by SVSU for allegedly raising pro-Pakistani slogans after India versus Pakistan cricket clash.”
“The Bar Association also condemns the threat given by the students of Bhagat Dental College and hospital, Mukhtasar Punjab to the Kashmiri students studying in the college after the cricket match between India and Pakistan at Mirpur Bangladesh was over,” the statement added.
The lawyers’ body said that the students belonging to J&K have all along been harassed by the fanatic elements living in India.
“In the name of showing their patriotism, they leave no stone unturned to abuse and tease them and even cause them physical harm,” the statement said, while “condemning the aforesaid acts of teasing, torturing and harassing Kashmiri students.”
It also impressed upon all the concerned to ensure the safety and security of these Kashmiri students and ensure that they are not harassed on false and baseless grounds.
“The Bar Association also seeks an impartial and independent inquiry in these incidents so that the Kashmiri students can pursue their studies outside the state in a peaceful and congenial manner,” the statement added.
Hurriyat Conference (M) also expressed serious concern over forcible expulsion of students from SVSU and termed the decision of the University authorities “reflective of communal mindset and racial bias.”
Hurriyat Conference Jammu and Kashmir (HCJK) also condemned the “the ill treatment given to Kashmiri students by the authorities of SVSU.
“The murderous attack on the students exhibit the communal mindset of the people involved in the cowardly act,” a statement issued by HCJK said.
Tehreek-e-Kashmir chairman Genral Muhammad Musa also condemned the incident.
In a statement, Musa appealed “the High court Bar Association to take up the matter and provide legal aid to the victimized students.”
