SRINAGAR: Police on Tuesday organized a drug de-addiction awareness program in ITI Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said that about 100 persons including sixty trainees participated in the day long program organized by Drug De-Addiction Centre (DDC), Baramulla.
Incharge DDC, Baramulla, Dr. Mohammad Ashraf briefed the students and trainees about the drugs and there adverse effects in detail,” the statement said.
“In his detailed presentation, he highlighted the initiation of J&K Police by starting up DDC facilities at Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag,” it added.
Dr. Ashraf also stressed upon the early signs and symptoms of drug abuse and its medical complications.
He also explained the treatment model and how the Drug De addiction Centers help the suffering youth to overcome the withdrawal effects of various substances and how the relapse can be minimized if the family and community support is mobilized.
The students were also briefed by the counselor Mohammad Ashraf about psychological aspects of drug abuse and role of councilor in treating the patient.
Other social activists including Shabir Ahmad and Khursheed Ahmad also interacted with the students and emphasized on the role of society in curbing the menace and need for an addiction free society.
