Rather blames AG’s Office for delay in tabling CAG report in Assembly

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government Monday blamed Accountant General’s Office for the delay in tabling of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report in the state legislature.
“So far no copy has reached me from AG’s Office how can I table CAG report. As soon as I get the copies of the report I will table,” Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said during zero hour of the Legislative Council.
“We have no problem to table it provided we get the copies of the report. The delay is on part of AG’s Officer,” Rather said.
The query was raised by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLC, Nayeem Akhtar who sought the explanation from the government why the report had been delayed and also alleged that the government had done deliberately so that no discussion would be done on the audit report.
“We want to know from the government why CAG report has not been tabled yet and why there was a need from the governor to sign it before tabling it in state legislature. The move has been done deliberately so that no discussion would occur in the house,” Akhtar said.
To this Rather said that it was not the first time that the audit report went to the governor of the state for approval.
“We don’t understand how it has become news. There is nothing new in it. The reports always go for the approval to the Governor of the state. And he has given his approval and the audit report will be tabled today or tomorrow,” he said.
