Rather inaugurates J&K’s 130th treasury at Kathua

KATHUA: As a sequel to initiatives to provide maximum possible facilities to the people of remote and bad pockets of the state at par with urbanities, the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather Saturday inaugurated a Government Sub-Treasury at Ramkot, Billawar here, raising total number of treasuries in the state to 130.
The Minister of State for Finance Manohar Lal Sharma, who is also the local MLA of Billawar constituency, was also present at the occasion.
The Sub-Treasury, Ramkote is the 58th Treasury in Jammu division and 6th treasury in district Kathua and will cater to 20 Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDO’s) of the area including Khoon, Balpur, Dhema, Nagrota Gujroo, Uchapind, Thada Kalyal, Gura Kalyal, Chinji Makwal, Mandli and Durung etc.
Speaking after inaugurating the treasury, Rather reiterated government’s commitment to provide all possible facilities to the people at their door steps, adding that opening of Government Treasuries especially in remote and inaccessible areas is a leap forward in this direction. He said present dispensation has given much focus to remote and backward areas of the state in its planning and policy framework to provide them equal opportunities of development and progress adding that, for the first time in the history of the state, allocation of special grants, for bad pockets of all the three regions of the state, has been made a permanent feature in annual Budget estimates.
“It is for the consecutive last four years now that special budgetary provisions are being earmarked to meet expenditures to meet developmental needs of the bad pockets of the state and to bring such areas at par with cities and towns” Rather said while assuring that no stone will be left unturned to meet the urges and aspirations of the people. He asked the officers to be more responsive to the people’s demands and strive hard to come upto their expectations.”
Rather said that opening of treasury at Ramkot will provide much needed relief to the people of the area who had to travel upto 40 kms to get their treasury related works done. He said a spacieous Government building shall be constructed for the Ramkot Treasury and asked the concerned district officers to put up estimates for this purpose.
The Director General, Accounts and Treasuries, J&K Mirza Altaf Hussain, Director Account and Treasuries Jammu Division, Mohammed Aslam, ADC Kathua Prasanna Ramaswamy, SSP Kathua Mohan Lal, Ex MLA Kathua Dhian Chand, SDM Billawar, panchs, sarpanchs and a large number of people were present on the occasion.
