JK to provide over 36000 solar lights in villages

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir government is in the process of providing 36,891 solar home lights and street lights to 299 villages and hamlets in the state.

Minister of State for Science and Technology, Feroz Ahmed said that so far 244 villages and 15 hamlets have been provided with solar home lighting system from last few years.

He was replying in written to the question of NC member Ajat Shatru Singh in Legislative Council.

During the next financial year, 36 villages and 263 hamlets are being provided 34,483 numbers of solar home lights and 2,408 solar street lights, he said.

Besides this, solar power plants are being installed in 69 district and sub-district hospitals, 107 community information centres, BDO offices and also in other educational institutions, shrines of rural areas, he said.

Around 3 MW special power projects have been installed so far and 1,752 KW capacities are being installed in next financial year, the minister said.
