Baramulla: Fresh gunfight broke out Saturday in Dardpora forests of Lolab in Kupwara district, where Army had claimed to have killed seven Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants on Monday last.
Officials told Kashmir Reader that the Special Operation Group (SOG) of police and Army’s 18 RR started searches in Dardpora forests after a joint party of Army and police came under fire from the militants.
Though no reports of casualty to the either side have been reported, additional reinforcements have been sent to the area. Officials said the number of militants was not yet known.
“Fresh incident of firing has taken place at Dardpora. A search team of police and Army has been fired upon by militants. The area has been cordoned off the combing operation has been started,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, north Kashmir, J P Singh, told media persons during a news conference here.
However, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kupwara, Abdul Jabar told Kashmir Reader that search operations were called off late Saturday evening following a brief exchange of gunfire with militants.
