‘Soldier among 5 arrested for stone pelting’

Srinagar: An Army trooper was among five persons arrested by police for stone pelting in Lolab, Kupwara on Friday, a local news agency said.
“After Friday prayers, a group of youth was protesting near Radnag village against killing of seven alleged militants in Lalpora (last week). The protesters also hurled stones at forces deployed in the area. A joint team of police and CRPF chased the stone pelters and caught hold of five persons. Among the five arrested, one is a soldier belonging to Army’s JAKLI Regiment,” the GNS said quoting police sources.
It said the arrested soldier Mohammad Ishaq Lone, son of Ghulam Ahmed Lone, of Hayatpora, Lolab, had come home on leave.
The other arrestees, according to the GNS, are: Muneer Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Younis Khan, of Lalpora; Firdous Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, of Dardpora; Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Jabbar Bhat, of Dardpora; and Mohammad Abbas Rather, son of Manzoor Ahmad Rather, of Dardpora.
Meanwhile, resident of Radnag village alleged that soon after the protests, CRPF personnel deployed in the area went berserk and smashed windowpanes of residential houses.
The houses whose windowpanes were damaged in the incident belong to Ghulam Ahmed Ganie, Mohammad Maqbool Shah, Abdul Aziz Mir, Ghulam Rasool Mir.
Four persons including two women, Saleema Begum and Haleema, sustained injuries after forces attacked their houses with stones, the GNS added.
