Protest against ‘corruption’ at LD Hospital

Srinagar: Protests broke out in Kashmir’s largest maternity hospital on Friday against the “corrupt practices” of paramedical and security staff.
Attendants assembled in the compound of the Lal Ded hospital and staged protests against the paramedics and security staff.  The protesters alleged that the staffers had made it a norm to demand bribe from the attendants visiting the healthcare institute to enquire about the wellbeing of their patients.
“While the security staff demands money at the entrance of the hospital, the paramedics hold every new born to ransom till their palms are greased. Demanding hefty bribe has become a norm for them,” said a attendant.
Demanding strict action against the staff, the protesters asked the authorities to put an end to the rampant corruption in the hospital.
Medical Superintendent, Dr. Mushtaq, admitted that “some” paramedical and security staff demand money from the visitors. “I have received such reports in the past as well and we will investigate the matter. We will do heavy reshuffle to control this menace,” he said.
He also assured that the action will be taken against those found involved.
