Srinagar: Police on Friday placed several pro-freedom leaders under house arrest.
A statement issued by Hurriyat Conference (M) said that police placed its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and several leaders under house arrest.
The amalgam strongly condemned “the house arrest of its chairman, and putting restrictions on his peaceful, religious and political activities.”
He also denounced the arrest of senior Hurriyat leaders including Javaid Ahmad Mir, Zaffar Akbar Bhat and Syed Salim Geelani, saying “the dictatorial politics of state authorities would never restrict the Hurriyat leaders from pursuing the peaceful political activities.”
The statement also said that senior Hurriyat leader, Agha Syed Hassan Moosvi-Al-Safvi, took out a protest march in Badgam soon after the Friday prayers.
“While addressing the people, Safvi once again reiterated the demand of impartial probe into the Lolab incident,” the statement said.
He also demanded justice for the relatives of Pathribal fake encounter victims and punishment for the accused involved in the crime.
Police also placed Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir (HCJK)  leader  Shabir Ahmad Shah under house arrest and conducted raids on the residences of  Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq-ul-Islam,  Muhammad Yusuf Naqash and other leaders.
The statement quoted Shah as saying that though there was no hope of justice from the occupational rulers, the prevailing highhandedness of forces in Kashmir was a test for world bodies and organizations.
“The people of Kashmir have pinned their good hopes on these bodies to get them justice and put an end to mass human rights violations,” Shah said, while terming the house arrest of leaders as “futile exercise on part of government.”
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat General Secretary Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Hurriyat Conference(G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar were also placed under house arrest.
