‘13 CoIs, 123 magisterial and judicial probes  ordered since 2002’

JAMMU: 13 Commissions of Inquiries(CoIs) were set up while 123 magisterial and judicial probes  ordered  into various incidents by successive governments since 2002.
The information was revealed by Minister for Law Justice and parliamentary Affairs Mir Saifullah in reply to a question by Peoples Democratic Party MLA, Syed Basharat Ahmad Bukhari in the Legislative Assembly.
Crores of rupees were spent on these CoIs and probes, the Minister said.
For example, an amount of nearly Rs 53 lakh were incurred on the one- man Commission of Inquiry headed by HS Bedi to look into the controversial  death of National Conference worker Haji Mohammad Yousuf at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s residence in  2011.
“The commission submitted its report on December 22, 2012 which was accepted by the Government vide Government Order Number 263-LD (Estt) of 2013 dated January 15, 2013,” the minister said.
Similarly Rs 9.55 lakh were incurred on the  Muzaffar Jan Commission, which was formed to enquire into alleged double rape and murder of Neelofar Jan and Asiya Jan of Shopian in 2009.
Saifullah also said that Rs 7 lakh were spent on Syed Bashir and Justice YP Nargotra Commission and RS 6.87 lakh on R C Ghandi Commission .
“Till 2013, 13 Commission of Inquiries  and 123 Judicial and magisterial inquires were ordered since 2002. Out of the 123 magisterial/judicial inquiries, most have been completed whereas 23 inquires are still on,” Saifullah said.
