Jammu: Over 1800 government and private buildings are still under the illegal occupation of military and paramilitary forces in the state, government said on Wednesday.
Replying to a calling attention notice, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is also Minister-In-Charge, Home, informed the Legislative Assembly that out of total 3324 buildings occupied by state forces 1468 have been vacated so far.
Giving further details, Omar Abdullah said that out of 2445 private buildings occupied by forces only 919 buildings have been vacated so far and out of 547 government buildings 267 have been vacated so far.
While out of 61 hotels occupied by forces only 33 have been vacated so far and 37 hospital out of total 40, 30 industrial units out of total 44 and three cinemas out of total eight have been vacated so far.
Omar also said that all the 179 school buildings under forces occupation have been vacated.
Omar also said that it would be the earnest endeavour of the government to relocate the security forces from the government, private establishments still occupied by them so that these establishments are restored to their original purpose or use.
“The progressive improvement in the overall security and law and order situation has given flexibility to gradually reduce the foot prints and visibility of security forces from the inhabitated areas and to vacate the government , private buildings and other establishments occupied by the security and para-military forces,” said Omar.
