Tourism accounts for 7% of J&K’s GDP, says govt

JAMMU: Tourism is the key sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy and accounts for 6.98 percent of the state’s GDP, government said on Tuesday.
Minister for Tourism GA Mir stated this in a written reply to a question in the Legislative Council.
Development projects for Mughal Road lake circuit and Girgan, valley of seven lakes, in Poonch has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 419 lakh of which, Rs 83.82 lakh has been released, the minister said.
The government has also sanctioned integrated development of tourism circuits Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch at a cost of Rs 688 lakh, he said. A detailed project report for providing basic amenities on Mughal Road at an estimated cost of Rs 763.90 lakh has been formulated and submitted to Union Ministry of Tourism for approval and assistance, he added.   —PTI
