Baramulla: Scores of residents of Muqam area of this north Kashmir districtTuesday staged a protest demonstration demanding establishment of a Community Block in the area for which land has already been donated seven years ago.

Scores of residents of Muqam, Dandmoha, Darwoa, Kaltantra Bala, Kalantra Payeen, Kholaina, Bandi Payeen, Satersearan, Nagbal, Kakothal, Tangwari Bala, Tangwari Payeen, Mangam, Kuchwa, Jathar and other villages assembled at Muqam on the Baramulla-Baba Reshi road and staged demonstration demanding CD Block for the area at Muqam, reports said Tuesday. Carrying placards and banners that read ‘CD block our right’, the protesters blocked the road link leaving scores of vehicles stranded. Later, the protesters dispersed off peacefully.

“Muqam is centrally located place for the establishment of a CD Block. It will also prove beneficial to the people of adjoining areas due to its ideal location. However, the government in newly created administrative units have left out our area despite the fact that we had already donated land of CD Block at Muqam,” Mehraj-ud-din, a protester told Kashmir Reader.

Ghulam Mohammed, another protester from Kalantra said that the residents pleaded their case before the officials at the helm of the affairs and even gave representation to CSC which met in Baramaulla.

“But we have been disappointed. The government should respect our genuine demand and grant CD block for Muqam,” he added.
