61 gazetted officers prosecuted in 3 yrs: Govt

Jammu: As many as 61 gazetted officers have been prosecuted in the last three years in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government said Tuesday.
In a written reply to a question of a Congress member, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the Legislative Council that 61 gazetted officers, who have served or are serving in different departments, including Civil Secretariat, have been prosecuted in the last three years.
Officers against whom prosecution has been sanctioned and challaned in courts of law, are sometimes given postings, including in Civil Secretariat in the interest of administration, he said.
There is no categorisation of posts as plum or prized in the administration, and postings are ordered in the interest of administration based on merit and suitablity, the Chief Minister said.
He further said that six officers have been found guilty by the courts of law and punished during the last three years.
