Father-son duo among 4 killed in mishaps

Srinagar: Four people including a man and his son were  killed in separate mishaps, police said Monday.
Two persons were killed when a truck in which they were travelling plunged into a gorge in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said .
The mishap occurred when the vehicle, on its way to Kishtwar from Thathri area of Doda district, skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Phagumar on the highway yesterday late evening.
Police and other rescue teams rushed the victims to a district hospital where they were declared brought dead.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh (40) and his son Atif Hussain (7).
Senior Congress leader Inderwal G M Saroori has expressed grief over the accident and demanded immediate ex-gratia relief of Rs. 1 lakh each to the next of kins of the deceased
Two persons were killed in a landslide on Jammu-Srinagar Highway in Ramban district. A truck, which was on its way to Jammu from Srinagar, got trapped in landslide near Battery Chashma in Ramban district late last night, police said here.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and pulled out the body of one Uttam Singh last evening, they said adding another body of Deepu was recovered this morning from the landslide.
After conducting legal formalities the bodies will be handed over to their families for the last rites, police said.
