JAMMU: Second round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme began Sunday from Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar here.
An official spokesman said that this campaign will continue for another two days by way of house-to-house activity to trace and administer polio drops to the children left out on the first day of the round.
Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla launched the programme by administering Polio drops to children at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Taj Mohi-ud-Din advised the parents to strictly follow the vaccination schedule to keep their children disease free, adding   that the pulse polio programme has been very effective in checking polio cases with the constant and excellent efforts of all the stakeholders.
“The State in fact had not recorded a single polio case since 2010, thanks to the pulse polio immunization programme and high quality preparedness and monitoring during the National Immunization Days”, he added.
In his address, Bhalla asked the concerned officers to ensure that the maximum numbers of children in the state are covered under this program so that they are   saved from the fatal disease.
He said that the Government has ensured these drops are administered to the children of rural and far flung areas.
The Minister also called for vigorous campaign to create awareness among the masses about the benefits of administering these drops to their children for successful implementation of the program.
