Guru hanging exposed India’s judiciary, Kashmir’s pro-India camp: Bar

SRINAGAR:  Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Saturday said the hanging of Afzal Guru without affording him the chance of a fair trial exposed India’s judicial system as well as Kashmir’s pro-India camp.
In a statement, the Bar general secretary, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat said that a meeting of the lawyers body chaired by its president, Mian Abdul Qayoom, discussed and deliberated on the reprieve given by the Supreme Court of India to the killers of Rajiv Gandhi and subsequent decision taken by Tamil Nadu Government to release all the seven persons involved in the assassination.
“The Bar members were unanimous in saying that by saving the killers of Rajiv Gandhi from gallows and by hanging Shaheed Mohammad Afzal Guru without giving him a fair trial not only the Indian Judicial System, but the Jammu and Kashmir Pro-India camp has also got exposed,” the statement said.
“The meeting, according to the statement, “also stated that Shaheed Mohammad Afzal Guru was hanged hurriedly and out of turn only because he was a Kashmiri and a Muslim and was a staunch supporter of ongoing freedom struggle.”
“Had he been a “Rajwana” of Punjab or a Hindu fanatic, he would not have been hanged and that too out of turn, even if he would have killed a Mahatma Gandhi again,” they said.
“The meeting also paid glorious tributes to Touseef Ahmad Dar who was martyred at Dalwan, Charar-i-Sharief on Wednesday,” the statement said while condemning the clamping of curfew in Pulwama and its surrounding areas.
