Govt employees detained in J&K

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday detained dozens of government employees who tried to take out a protest march in support of their demands including regularization of daily-wage and casual workers.
Hundreds of employees of Public Health Engineering Department assembled near Press Colony here and tried to march towards Divisional Commissioner’s office, but were stopped by police who asked them to disperse, witnesses and official sources said.
The employees insisted on going ahead with the protest, following which police resorted to baton charge to disperse them.
Over 30 employees were taken into preventive custody, official sources said.
The protest call was given by Kashmir PHE Joint Employees Association in support of its demand for regularisation of daily wage workers, casual labourers and need-based workers.
They also demanded their pending salaries be released and paid regularly.
The employees threatened to launch a massive state-wide agitation if their demands are not met soon.
