Valley traders cry official harassment at Lakhanpur Toll Post

SRINAGAR: Kashmir Traders Federation (KTF), a Srinagar based traders’ body Friday said Kashmiri businessmen dealing with imports are being harassed by the officials on different pretexts at Lakhanpur Check Post.
In a written statement mailed to Kashmir Reader, the federation said ‘autocratic’ officers of the state government sitting at the toll post have no sympathy with the Kashmir based traders and they are unnecessarily harassing them.
“The Commercial Taxes Department is working on target bases to collect tax especially from imports and they are fulfilling their targets by unduly penalizing traders of the Valley,” president of KTF, Jan Mohammad Koul said in the statement, adding, “It is a conspiracy to weaken the economy of the business fraternity of Kashmir.”
Koul also criticized Fiannce Minister Abdul Rahim Rather’s recent statement that Valley traders have 12,000 crore tax outstanding and said traders have already paid more than 90 percent tax for this fiscal year.
that they are surprised over the statement of the Finance Minister that 12 thousand crore of outstanding of tax is with the traders of valley, although they have already paid the 90 percent of it.
He also expressed concern over the rent hike by SMC authorities to the traders who have their business establishments in buildings owned by Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
