JAMMU: Governor N N Vohra Friday said that sports activities should be an important part of the curriculum of all educational institutions which should strive to organize extensive sports activities.
He said this while inaugurating the first “Governor’s Inter-Collegiate Silver Rolling Volley Ball Championship” at Government Degree College, Udhampur.
The championship will see 32 teams from the various degree colleges of the state competing for title glory.
Emphasizing the need of large participation of the youth in different sports and games, the Governor observed that physical exercise is essential as a healthy body and a sound mind go together for the balanced personality development of the students.
The Governor said that the Sports Stadium being established at Katra by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board would soon be ready for hosting various sports championships.
The Governor watched the Exhibition Volley Ball Match which was played between the teams of Government Degree Colleges of Udhampur and Baramulla.
Mementoes were also presented to Ashok, Director Sports, SMVDU, Raj Guru, Vice- President J&K Volley Ball Association, Pradeep Chopra, Vice- President, District Volley Ball Association, and Roshan lal, Yash Paul, Kuldeep Singh, Amit Sharma, Manik Nargotra, for their outstanding contributions to sports.
