3,200 JK cops get out-of-turn promotions

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said that at least 3,217 policemen have been promoted out-of- turn in the state.
“3,217 officers and officials have been promoted out of turn in the state police department on the operational grounds,” Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the Assembly in a written reply to a question of PDP member Sofi Abdul Gafar.
The details of the particulars of these officers and officials are being collected and will be submitted during the current session of the legislation, he said.
He ruled out the recruitment of constables or engagement of Special Police Officers (SPOs) at the constituency level.
He further said that 227 candidates belonging to district Kulgam have been appointed as constables during last three years and 105 persons have been engaged as SPOs during the same period in the district.—PTI
