SRINAGAR: A 15-day basic Ski training course was inaugurated Tuesday by DIG North Kashmir Range JP Singh at Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering Gulmarg for youngsters, a statement issued by the police said.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that J&K Police is organizing the event every year under civic action programme with the aim to provide a platform to the youth of valley to sharpen their skills.
The training camp is organized with the aim to promote winter sports activities among the youth and provide a platform to the youth of Kashmir to explore their hidden skills.
40 youngsters from all over the valley in two batches of 20 each would be imparted basic training in skiing in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering Gulmarg (IISM), it added.
Speaking at the occasion principal IISM JS Dhillon said that IISM possess best equipments to go with able instructors which has resulted in the institute becoming the best skiing institute in the valley.
The inaugural function was also attended by SP Baramulla, Zubair Ahmad Khan, SSP Kupwara and officers from the tourism department and Gulmarg Development Authority.
The training for second batch course will start on March 3.
