Baramulla: Hundreds of people Monday staged protests in Narwaw area of this north Kashmir district demanding Tehsil status for the area and CD and Nabyat blocks for Sheeri.
Hundreds of people took to streets at Sheeri this morning and staged protests against the government. Carrying placards and banners and chanting slogans, the protesters blocked the Srinagar-Muzafferabad road for at least five hours leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on the vital highway. Besides Tehsil status for Narwaw, the protesters were demanding that CD and Nabyat units be established around Sheeri, which is centrally located.
“The government has approved a Naybat and CD block for our area. However, they have not declared where it will be located. It’s being said that CD block will be established in Hewan and Nayabat in Fatehgarh village. We demand both to be established around centrally located Sheeri,” President Narwaw Welfare Committee, Abdul Jabar Lone, told media men here.
He said that a Public Health Centre, Community Hall, Social Welfare Office, Agriculture office, Police Training Centre, Animal Husbandry Hospital, banks, petrol pumps and over 200 business establishments were located in Sheeri area where the new administrative blocks should also be established.
“The establishment of these two offices will be beneficial to the people of all the 26 villages of Narwaw” he said.
