Joint civil society forum to negotiate return of power projects with Delhi

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Centre for Social and Developmental Studies (KCSDS) aims to constitute a joint forum for direct negotiations with New Delhi over the much-awaited return of hydropower projects to the state.
“We are in the final stage of constituting a joint forum of all civil society groups to directly take up with New Delhi the issue of return of power projects,” KCSDS chairperson Hameeda Nayeem said  in a press conference here.
KCSDS had moved court over the return to state of the power projects that are managed by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC). As per the agreement, the NHPC is to return to state the power projects whose construction cost has been recovered by it over the years.
“The state government has only proved to be a hindrance in getting back the power projects; it is yet to make a formal demand to New Delhi for return of the power projects.  So we have decided to talk to New Delhi directly,” she said.
