450 kanals transferred for setting up KVK Bandipora

JAMMU:  Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir Sunday informed the House that 450 kanals of land was transferred to SKUAST-K  for establishment of Krishi Vigyan Kendera (KVK) at Patushai, Bandipora. He said alternate site of 179 kanals of land was provided by District Development Commissioner, Bandipora to the villagers for grazing their cattle in the area.
Replying to a question by  Nizam-ud-Din Bhat in the House, the Minister informed that presently the KVK is functional at Bandipora. He said after creation of new District Bandipora, the inhabitants of village Patushai approached High Court and filed a writ petition. He said the High Court in its order on July 14, 2008 issued ‘status quo’ order which was vacated by the High Court, with the direction that Agriculture University has every liberty to make KVK functional and also directed to consider claim of the petitioners for providing them alternate grazing site for their cattle.
The Minister said that alternate land of 179 kanals was provided by the DDC Bandipora to the villagers for grazing their cattle, adding that SKUAST would be also directed to engage local youth in KVK.
In reply to the supplementary by Ashok Kumar, the Minister said that site for establishment of KVK at Ramban is being identified.
