Shopian encounter: Geelani pays tributes to slain militants

SRINAGAR: Paying tributes to the militants killed in an encounter at Pinjoora Shopian in South Kashmir, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Friday said the militants are an “asset and pride” of the “nation”.
“Our young generation has chosen the path of resistance instead of school and colleges, and despite limited resources they have bravely challenged a big and cruel power of the world. It is a universal truth that whenever any nation is subjugated, some great people come out to resist the subjugation, and these people are asset and pride of every nation,” a statement quoted Geelani saying in a tele-statement to the protesters in Shopian.
He said New Delhi’s “rigidity” and “stubbornness”  has been turning civilized Kashmiris into militants.
“Linking our militants with terrorism is an unrealistic approach of the Indian rulers. We are peace loving people and our youths who are joining resistance movement are well educated and civilized, but the rigidity and stubbornness of Indian rulers is forcing force them to pick up arms,” he said.
Reiterating his call for complete boycott of the upcoming parliamentary elections, Geelani said new Delhi “wants to perform the election drama in presence of its 750, 000 cruel forces.”
“It (elections) is not a referendum, but India projects this drama as referendum in the international forums to deceive the world community,” he said.
Condemning the arrest of a youths in Bandipora in North Kashmir, he said the police is “by provokes the youths and then detains them in police stations.”
