Jammu: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday said that Article 370 of the Indian constitution defined Jammu and Kashmir’s relationship with India and neither National Conference nor Congress will allow its abrogation.
“Article 370 serves like a bridge between our state and the rest of country and determines the relationship between the two. Whenever elections are close, some people carry false bogey of abrogation of this Article but then forget it once they assume power. As far as National Conference and Congress coalition exists no one can abrogate it,” said Omar in his address to Legislative Assembly.
Omar said that some people who “dream of sitting on highest chairs of Government of India propagate false things about Article 370.”
“They don’t know anything and confuse Article 370 with state resident laws, which are in place since the time of Maharaja who wanted to protect the poor residents of the state from rich people of Punjab,” said Omar.
Without naming BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendara Modi, Omar said a top leader of BJP spoke about discussing the benefits of Article 370 during a public rally in Jammu but when “I challenged him to a debate he, through a third person, denied discussing the issue at all”, he said.
