Srinagar: Lawyers will strike work from February 9 to 11 to mark the death anniversaries of Mohammad Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat , the Kashmir High Court Bar Association( HCBA) said Saturday.
During a meeting of its executive committee headed by president Mian Abdul Qayoom , the lawyers’ body paid glorious tributes to Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru, the “ shining stars of Kashmir resistance movement who by laying down their lives for a pious cause had not only achieved martyrdom but given a new impetus to the ongoing freedom struggle of the people of Kashmir.”
In a statement, the lawyers’ body said Bhat and Guru were sent to gallows “only to subjugate and suppress the voice of the people of Kashmir and to convey to them that they can also be falsely implicated and hanged for asking freedom from Indian occupation.”
The meeting also condemned the crackdown of the pro-freedom leaders ahead of “martyrdom anniversaries of Guru and Bhat,” terming it as “worst kind of state-terrorism and human rights violation.”
“It was also decided that the Bar Association will support the (three-day ) strike call given by the pro-freedom camp and the lawyers shall abstain from court work on these days( February 9, 10 and 11),” the statement said.
