‘Restrictions likely from Feb 9 to 11’

Srinagar: Authorities are likely to impose restrictions across Kashmir valley on February 9 and 11 in wake of strike call and protests called by pro- pro-freedom groups to commemorate the death anniversaries of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and Mohammad Afzal Guru.
The decision, according to a local news agency GNS, has been taken by the authorities to prevent protests in the Valley.
Meanwhile, an official spokesman said that Section 144 Cr PC (which bars assembly of four or more persons) will remain in effect in Kupwara town, Trehgam, Kralpora, Sogam, Lalpora, Drugmulla, Handwara town, Langate town and Kralgund from February 9 to 11.
“Section 144 Cr PC promulgated by District Magistrate Shopian up to February 9 has been extended for two months more,” the spokesman said.
On February 11, 1984, Bhat, the founder of JKLF, was executed at Tihar Jail in New Delhi while Guru was also hanged in the same jail on February 9, 2013.
