EDI rolls out batch of 111 aspiring entrepreneurs

SRINAGAR: A batch of 111 aspiring entrepreneurs, including 14 women, who want establish their own businesses, Thursday completed the training at Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Pampore here, according to a spokesperson of the institute.
EDI, which this financial year has trained around 2000 candidates in about 70 batches, provides three-week training program in entrepreneurship development. The program provides training on skill development, performance improvement as well as business cum sector specific learning, leadership and self-development, the spokesperson said.
Aspiring entrepreneurs are exposed to a real-life business scenario through simulations during which they also interact with established successful entrepreneurs and technical experts from various fields.
The latest batch of aspiring entrepreneurs were from Srinagar, Budgam, Kulgam, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Shopian and Pulwama districts of the Kashmir Valley with varied educational background including qualified engineers and doctors.
Most of the candidates have registered for the Seed Capital Fund Scheme (SCFS) – a key component of the state government’s Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY) being implemented by JKEDI to help startup entrepreneurs.
Financial assistance is provided to the trained candidates. Non-refundable seed money of up to 35 percent of their project cost is provided to them under SCFS and the rest is financed at concessional rates by J&K Bank – the debt syndicate of JKEDI.
Some of the candidates have also registered for Youth Start-Up Loan Scheme (YSLS) under which off-bank soft loans up to Rs 8 lakh at simple interest rate of just 6 percent is given to aspiring entrepreneurs.
The trained aspiring entrepreneurs are targeting business including manufacturing, services, food processing, and agri-allied sectors.
The institute from time to time offers a platform to entrepreneurs to enable them to set up their ventures through a host of services like consultancy, information, training, education and finance.
