Machil avalanche: Body of missing soldier recovered

Srinagar: Army on Saturday recovered body of a soldier who was swept away by an avalanche that stuck its post in Machil sector along the Line of Control in Kashmir district on Thursday.
The body of W Lampa Konyak (belt no. 4369289-W) was recovered with the help of sniffer dogs, a local news agency GNS said, quoting its sources.
The soldier and his colleague Thoumdan Singh, who were manning the Army’s 5 Assam Post, were buried in the avalanche on January 9. While body of Singh was recovered on the same day, rescuers faced tough time in locating another.
Meanwhile, Indian Air Force air lifted four persons including a pregnant woman facing serious complications from Dabar village of Gurez Sector to Bandipora using Mi–17 Helicopter, Army’s Srinagar-based spokesman in a statement.
“Khursheeda Begum wife of Mohammed Ashraf, a pregnant woman, along with other three persons were airlifted by Army’s Dabar Brigade with the Air Force,” he said.
