NC for early decision on new admin units

Jammu: Ruling National Conference has said a decision should be taken at the earliest on forming new administrative units in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the step would help in bringing administration to the doorsteps of people.
“We hope for early decision on new administrative units in J&K. This step will go a long way in satiating the aspirations of the people and bringing administration at their doorstep,” Provincial President of National Conference, Devender Singh Rana said here.
“Keeping in view the rapid growth of population, the exercise to create new administrative units was long overdue,” Rana said, appreciating Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for taking appropriate measures to initiate steps towards creation of the new units.
The NC leader described the move as second most important milestone of the coalition government after the successful conduct of Panchayati elections.
He said the new administrative units would help in mitigating the sufferings of the people, especially in remote and far off areas, and make the administration more responsive to their needs.
Rana said the recommendations of the Dr S S Bloeria and Mushtaq Ahmad Committee were on the basis of a vast administrative exercise conducted after thorough discussion with the cross section of the people of the state.
The final report was made keeping the administrative requirements and public opinion in mind. When implemented, it will play an important role in creating public delivery mechanism by effective administrative set up, he said.
The difficult geographical terrain and allied constraints had been coming in the way of people registering their grievances and seeking redressal to the problems at appropriate fora, he said, adding that creation of new units will bridge this gap between people and the administration.
Rana said NC was a votary of strong people-friendly administrative set up which was responsive and convenient for the people of the state.
