Govt patronizing liquor consumption at clubs: Mirwaiz

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Wednesday expressed concern over “growing immorality in Muslim- majority Kashmir”.
Addressing a conference on the life of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) at Mirwaiz Manzil here, the Hurriyat (M) chairman accused the state government particularly police of acting as “a mute spectator to the growing social evils in Valley.”
“Efforts are underway to make wine, which has been called as mother of all evils, a part of Kashmiri culture. Under the garb of promoting tourism in Valley, the authorities are promoting a culture contrary to our ethos,” Mirwaiz said
Mirwaiz alleged that the state government was promoting “liquor and immoral activities at tourist spots and clubs like Kahsmir Golf Club, Amar Singh Club.”
“Similarly drugs and other narcotics are being made easily available to the youth and they are encouraged to indulge in immoral activities at gardens and parks. All this is being done to make our society hollow,” he added.
