Srinagar: An official of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation(SMC) was critically injured during the demolition of an illegal structure here.
“It had come to the notice of authorities that the owner of OASIS school Gogji Bagh had illegally raised a single- storied structure without obtaining proper permission. A demolition squad under the supervision of Nisar AHmad Shah rushed to the spot to raise down the illegal structure but had to face strong resentment from the teaching and non-teaching staff present there,” a spokesperson for the SMC said in a statement.
“The SMC officials had to face stone pelting and were beaten to pulp. Apart from Enforcement Officer Nisar Ahmad Shah receiving critical injuries Ward Officer Jawaher Nagar along with the BI and Tax Inspector were also injured in the attack,” the statement said.
Shah was rushed to SMHS Hospital here for treatment , the statement said, adding a case has been registered at the concerned police station in this regard.
Meanwhile Municipal Employees Union held an emergency meeting under the chairmanship of Nazir Khan and strongly condemned the attack.
