Baramulla: The two non local militants, who were killed in Qazigund area of south Kashmir on Tuesday in an encounter with government troops, were buried in martyr’s graveyard at Gantamulla village in Baramulla during the night hours. The bodies were shifted police station Sheeri from to police lines Baramulla and subsequently handed over to local people for performing their last rites.
Over sixty non local militants including some top commanders have been buried in the graveyard in past two years. The government forces do not hand over the bodies of unidentified non-local militants to people living around the encounter site but silently take them to Sheeri graveyard for burial. The method has been adopted to avoid swell of people at the funerals of slain militants who often give them heroic farewell. The officials maintain that the method has been adopted in the wake of law and order situation. Tens of thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of slain Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Abu Qasim in Kulgam in 2014 summer causing huge embarrassment to the state authorities.
