Pampore: Traders Federation Pampore on Monday held a protest demonstration at Tehsil Office Pampore against the Tehsildar for seeking re-verification of shops damaged in 2014 floods.
Nearly 25 percent of shopkeepers in Pampore are awaiting relief and while the relief amount has been released to the concerned officers, they have asked for re-verification of the cases. President of the federation, Mohammad Rafiq Wani told Kashmir Reader that the officials in the tehsil office were dilly dallying relief to the shopkeepers .
General Secretary of the federation, Abdul Majeed Bhat, asked how it was possible for the shopkeepers to arrange the photographs of damaged shops which have been renovated. “Four years have passed since the floods damaged our shops and everyone tried to start the business at earliest,” he said. “The shopkeepers could not have afforded to leave their shops abandoned only to receive a petty amount from the government.”
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Ghulam Mohammad Dar told Kashmir Reader that verification was important as the money they had to pay must go to the deserved people.
“Objection to verification is an absurd thing, no official would allow this thing,” he said, adding that verification was a pre-requisite.
